I’m writing as Liaison between BFM and American Friends Service Committee (AFSC). This organization has offices (and centers of volunteer activity) throughout America, plus a number of similar outposts worldwide, including in the besieged city of Rammalah in Gaza.
AFSC was created in Pennsylvania in 1917 and was active initially on the Western Front providing support for the victims of WWI. And similar AFSC efforts continued in Europe in the aftermath of that terrible war. Then AFSC became active within the U.S. working on Race Relations, Labor Conditions and Immigration Issues, as well as efforts to prevent outbreak of new hostilities. Since then, AFSC has increased its scope of activities and areas where it’s active. It’s now an organization of professionals, assisted by numerous able volunteers. Their priorities now are Peace Building, Just Economies and humane responses to Migration Issues worldwide.
AFSC has an attractive website. Information about activities AFSC is involved in can be a bit hard to find, especially projects which utilize volunteers. The links below provide this information.
